Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy is the use of electricity as a form of treatment for soft tissue injuries. The aims of most forms of electrotherapy include:

  • Increasing blood flow to the injured area, which promotes healing
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Decreasing pain.
  • Breaking down scar tissue and adhesions

At the Horsham Sports Injury Clinic we use ultrasound which causes an increase in local blood flow and can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect.
